A Child’s View

November 10th, 197?

Roy DeSoto sat at the dinner table with his family, the former thinking about being on duty the following day, Veterans Day. As he finished eating, he set down his fork and sighed.

“You know, it’s kind of a shame all veterans don’t get tomorrow off,” he lamented, referring to his having served in the army. “I mean, since the kids have tomorrow off from school, if I was off too we could go to the local parade and have a family picnic afterward or something.”

Before Roy’s wife Joanne could comment, six-year-old Christopher looked up from where he sat next to his father and smiled proudly. “Don’t worry, Daddy. I’ll let ya know what we did without ya.”

Roy had to return a smile at the unexpected reply. “I’m sure you will,” he said with a pat on the youngster’s back and a wink at Joanne, not wanting to ruin their son’s well-meaning offer.

Gotta love the innocence of childhood. . .
