"Will I Survive?"
By Nancy M.

They pull up to the fire fresh and clean
To fight the beast who has turned so mean.
They put on their turnouts and drag out the hose
And head into the fire thinking anything goes.

They check the doors and put an X on the spot
Feeling to make sure all the doors are not hot.
They get everyone out and head for fresh air
Looking at the destruction with a feeling of despair.

Two lives are lost, but many are saved
By the path to safety the firemen have paved.
All the injured are checked as they look all around
Bewildered by all the commotion and sound.

Where will they go, what will they do?
They ask the two now wearing blue.
The two share a look that they know all to well
And they know these people will survive this hell.

They pack up their gear and head for home
Each with his thoughts, but not alone.
