A Young Boy’s Dream
By Jane L.
The young boy ran from the
porch as he heard the scream of a siren.
From his vantage point at the sidewalk, he was able to see the red truck
as it raced down the city street. This
was his favorite part of visiting his aunt in Los Angeles, being able to watch
the fire trucks as they left the station house a block away. As the truck rolled by, Johnny watched in
awe as two men hung onto the back of the truck. He dreamt of one day joining them in their wild ride, his own
name “Gage” emblazoned on the back of the heavy coat for all to see. A smile on his face, Johnny imagined
himself as a member of this brave team.
“Johnny!”
“Yes, Mom.”
“Time for lunch.”
Johnny watched as the
truck turned onto a side street and disappeared from sight, then he walked
slowly towards the house. Their
two-week visit had just begun, but already he found that he was bored and
lonely. He’d talked it up to all his
friends back home on the reservation, his exciting trip to the city. But in reality, there wasn’t much to do
while his mom and aunt spent the days visiting. Suddenly, an idea came to mind causing the young boy to hurry
forward.
“Hey, Mom.
Do you think the firemen would give me a tour of the station?”
The End!
