A Christmas Dialogue
By Audrey W.
"I can't believe it's almost Christmas!"
"I know."
"I mean, Roy, it seems like just yesterday it was still October and we were talkin' about what the station was gonna do in November and December for Toys for Tots."
"I know."
"And what happened to Thanksgiving? Seems it was here and gone before the turkey even got cold."
"I guess you could say we ate it, Johnny."
"Roy, I'm bein' serious here. Man, I don't know about you, but I almost feel like we're gonna go to bed tonight and wake up to the new year. Almost. 'Course that can't happen bein' it's December twenty-first, but you get the idea. I mean--"
"Before you get carried away any further, I'm being serious, too. We had Thanksgiving, ate our big turkey dinner, and then the next morning the craziness started and it hasn't let up since, it seems."
"Ya know, Roy, it's too bad someone couldn't invent a button. . .a thing. . .like a box or somethin'. . . with a button. . . you press it and everything slows down. Maybe even put a pause button on the thing."
"Sounds like something people could use this time of year."
"It does.. . .it really does."
"But then maybe not."
"Whataya mean maybe not? You said yourself, time's flyin'."
"Well, if you think about it, Johnny, the hustle and bustle is part of the holiday season each and every year. A lot of people actually seem to thrive on it. And I know if Joanne had too much time to get everything done by Christmas, she never would. It's too easy to procrastinate."
"You know what, Roy?"
"What?"
"You're absolutely right. It's how it should be and it just wouldn't be the same any other way. In fact, we'd better hope no one ever does figure out how to invent that magic button."
"Merry Christmas, Junior."
"Merry Christmas, Pally."
This was inspired by the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season.. Of course, it's intended to be dialogue only. :o)
