Live from Lot 51?

“Hey, Roy?” mused Johnny Gage as they rolled up to their current call.

“Yeah?” Roy DeSoto replied hesitantly, sensing a non sequitur in the making—a common occurrence from his partner when he was riding next to him in the rescue squad.

“Did you ever notice that a lot of the houses we get called to look like something out of old movie sets?”

“Uh…” Roy shook his head. “Can’t say that I have.”

“I mean, look at this place,” Johnny motioned out the window. “It looks like something straight out of Midnight Monty’s Horror Movie Extravaganza on Saturday nights! I can just see a creepy ghost standing in that top window glaring out into the darkness…”

Roy put the squad in ‘Park’ and shut off the engine before opening his door. “You have a incredible imagination, you know that? One to rival both my kids put together.” Roy began opening doors on the side of the squad and gathering supplies.

“Roooy. I’m serious! Just look at this place, will you? Big, old, lots of windows.”

“What’s wrong with big, old, and lots of windows? Those are usually big selling points.”

“You know, I bet the porch even creaks! And it’s not just houses! Some of the apartment buildings too. It’s like the builders all had this one creepy blueprint and they used it over and over and…”

“Okay, Mr. Architect,” Roy nudged Johnny forward with his shoulder, “how about we knock, get inside, and see what we’re dealing with here.”

“I can’t believe you don’t see it!” huffed Gage grouchily. “It couldn’t be more obvious.”

DeSoto knocked on the door. “Fire Department!” Without warning, the door swung open with a loud and ominous squeal. Roy looked at his partner and grinned. “Hear that? This one comes with sound effects.”
